TLC Physical Therapy, opened it's doors in September 2001. Two Smithtown sisters, Lorie and Tina Echerer, were committed to providing each patient with a hands-on, individualized treatment plan in a friendly, family like environment. Their experience and personal touch became more than just a little TLC.

Lorie Echerer-Van Riel, PT is a graduate of Smithtown High School East. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of South Florida in 1994. She attained her physical therapy degree at the Hogeschool van Groningen, the Netherlands in 1998. Lorie is currently pursuing her manual therapy certification at the University of St. Augustine and recently began a Vestibular Rehabilitation Program here at TLC.

Tina Elderbaum, MPT is a graduate of Smithtown High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree  at Campbell University. Throughout her studies at Campbell she was the pitcher for their Division One softball team.  Her background as an athlete enhances her specialty in treating athletes with shoulder injuries. She attained a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in 1999. Tina has furthered her education in the field of Women's Health and is one of the few certified specialists in the area.

Erwin Van Riel, PT earned a Bachelor of Science Degree for physical therapy from the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1994. He began in outpatient physical therapy in the Netherlands, followed by several years in acute inpatient rehabilitation and pediatrics in Florida. His strong interest in sports medicine and orthopedics brought him back to the outpatient setting in 1999. Erwin played semi-pro soccer in the Netherlands and continues to coach and rehabilitate injured athletes.
